Why Our Clients Stay (Even After They “Don’t Need Us” Anymore)

When Level TEN (now LVLTN—like “revolution” with an “L”!) first came to be, our longest coaching contract that you could sign up for was a 3-month coaching package.

I was adamant that we shouldn't offer longer coaching packages because if people “needed” our coaching forever, then they hadn't learned what we had intended to teach them; which would be a failure on our part.

Interestingly, what I witnessed in the following months vastly changed the trajectory of our services and the quality of our coaching:

Clients were renewing their 3-month contracts over, and over, and over again.

Naturally, I Had Questions…

I had to start gathering feedback from these clients to figure out if we were the problem and what that problem was.

  • Are they renewing because we didn't deliver what they were looking for in those 3 months?
  • Are they renewing because they didn't accomplish what they set out to and needed more time to do so?
  • Are they renewing because we didn't teach them everything we could have in those 3 months?

But the more feedback we got from our clients, the more I realized something that changed everything:

Retaining them didn’t mean we were under-delivering.
It meant we were over-delivering.
And they wanted even more.

They Don’t “Need” Us—They Want to Stay

I’ve come to realize that many of our clients don’t need to stay with us for extended periods of time.

But they still want to.

And that’s pretty cool.

  • Many of our clients no longer need custom nutrition protocols from us because they’ve learned how and when to make adjustments on their own.
  • Many of our clients no longer need custom training protocols because they’ve learned how to train effectively and program based on their goals and preferences.
  • Many of our clients no longer need daily or weekly check-ins just for accountability because the behavior changes they’ve made are now sustainably engrained in their lifestyle.

So Why Are They Still Clients?

Why is our average client retention almost a full year (11 months)?
Why do we have clients who’ve been with us for 3, 4, even 5+ years?

Because...
