Morning Routines Don’t Have to Be Complicated

You’re scrolling your social media and you see morning routine after morning routine and you’re wondering to yourself…. how the HECK do these people have so much time in the mornings to follow this 25 step routine that includes hundreds of dollars of supplements, a full workout, shower + meditation session?

It feels like you’re living two completely different lives… and guess what? You very well MAY BE.

The truth is, not everyone has the time, finances or even desire to start their day with such complexity.

The other truth is, you likely DO have time to implement one simple aspect that can add value to your life and help you start the day feeling a little better than when you roll out of bed and rush through the morning.

Being intentional rather than letting the day (and other people) rule you is one of the biggest “self-care hacks” I can ever give you. And while you truly may not have time for a lengthy routine, being intentional with even just 5 MINUTES to yourself at the start of each day can change your entire trajectory, mindset and attitude. I can pretty much guarantee that you’ll not only go about the rest of your day with a more positive mindset, but you will likely start to see how that 5 minutes can bleed into more self-care over time.

So my encouragement for you today, is to pick one thing (yes, just one. Don’t be an over-achiever yet) from this list below, and make it your thing that you do every morning… before you get distracted with anything else, before the kids wake-up, before anyone else needs you.

THE SELF-CARE TOOLBOX

These practices will range from 5 minutes to longer duration. Make it fit the CURRENT phase of life you’re in.

  • Drink 10 chugs of water before you get out of bed
  • 5 minute gratitude journal – List 3 things you’re grateful for in the moment that YOU have control over
  • 10 minute mobility routine/stretching
  • 5-10 minute guided meditation
  • 15 minute walk on a treadmill or outdoors
  • 15 minute house/room reset while listening to a self-improvement podcast
  • Get ready for the day in silence + peace
  • Take a shower without anyone bothering you
  • Read 5-10 pages of a nonfiction book
  • Do a 30 minute workout

Whatever you choose, commit to ONE thing for at least the next 14 days and watch your life and mindset start to shift as you become one of those “morning people” you see all over your social feeds… in a way that makes sense for YOUR life.
